Weather issues may have caused the cancellation of Garden City’s annual Memorial Day parade, but that didn’t mean this most solemn of days would wind up going unrecognized. The William Bradford Turner Post—American Legion went forward with an interdenominational memorial church service at the Cathedral of the Incarnation.

With former Legion Commander Dr. Joseph Frey serving as the master of ceremonies and a number of officials in attendance including Garden City Mayor Nicholas Episcopia, Senator Kemp Hannon and Town of Hempstead Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin, a solemn homage was paid to those men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve liberty and freedom this country’s citizenry.
