Budget Work Sessions
I would like to advise you that the board of trustees will be conducting work sessions to review the proposed 2011/12 Operating/Capital Budgets on:
Saturday, January 22, 8:30 a.m. (Tour of Facilities and Capital Plan Presentation)
Thursday, February 10, 7 p.m. (Budget Study Work Session 1)
Saturday, February 12, 8:30 a.m. (Budget Study Work Session 2)
Thursday, February 17, 7 p.m. (Budget Study Work Session 3 — Final)
These sessions are currently scheduled to be held in the boardroom at Village Hall, 351 Stewart Ave., Garden City. Any residents with or without constructive suggestions for the budget are welcome to attend.
Chamber’s 2011 Kick Off Luncheon to Feature
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano
The Garden City Chamber of Commerce has announced that the Keynote Speaker for its Jan. 26, 2011 Kick-off Luncheon will be Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano. The program will held at the Garden City Hotel and Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano’s topic will be “Reducing the Cost of Government to Help Both Homeowners and Businesses.” Reservations can be made by calling the Chamber of Commerce at 746-7724.
Board of Trustees Meeting Schedule
The next regularly scheduled board of trustees’ meetings will be on Thursday, Feb. 3, and on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m.
Village’s Website Additions
I encourage residents to periodically utilize the village’s website for information regarding the village’s operations, as well as items of seasonal and special interest. The address is www.garden cityny.net. For your convenience, listed on the village’s home page under the Heading of Administration is a link, which lists the various village board and commissions, along with their meeting dates and agendas.
Based on some recent suggestions, a village “message alert” section was added to our site. You will notice that on the home page (main screen) under the top heading there is a section that states: “Click here for Village News Alert Messages.” These updates will be made as necessary and will contain a wide range of announcements such as special meetings, changes to the Sanitation Collections, water main breaks, hydrant flushings, weather related events and power outages.
Your village has spent a good deal of time and money to beautify our central business district in order to make it appealing to residents and businesses. Our local food markets on Seventh Street and Franklin Avenue have also made a significant investment in purchasing high quality shopping carts for our use and convenience while shopping in their stores. Regrettably, these carts are not being returned to the prescribed areas by the shoppers and are being left within the parking fields and in the areas of the apartment houses.
In consideration of your neighbors, merchants and community, I urge residents to return these carts to their respective stores. Please don’t place the village in the position to have to expend manpower and time to impound the shopping carts. The residents’ effort will go a long way to keeping our village the beautiful place that we all want it to be.
