At the July 25 meeting of the Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club, members and guests learned about the Winthrop-University Hospital Medical Affiliates Urgent Care Center (UCC), which opened its doors in June 2014. The guest speaker was Dr. Jamie-Yedowitz-Freeman, attending physician at Winthrop Internal Medicine Associates and Winthrop Urgent Care. She spoke of the purpose and benefits of services provided by the UCC, fielding myriad questions from Club members.
Seeking treatment at the UCC precludes long wait times experienced at the hospital’s emergency room. Yedowitz-Freeman said that about 60 per cent of patients are in and out in about 30 minutes. Winthrop’s Urgent Care Center combines the convenience of walk-in, no-appointment-necessary healthcare with the confidence of having an entire team of board-certified Winthrop physicians providing needed care for most all medical problems. When further care is needed, Winthrop-University Hospital is just steps away.
In the first four months after its opening, the new center received more than 2,000 walk-in visits. Two years later, the center sees approximately 140 patients per week totaling up to more than 7,200 per year.
Located at the 222 Station Plaza Building, Suite 110 in Mineola (facing the Mineola LIRR train station), the center provides free valet parking adjacent to the center. For current hours or more information, call 516-663-1111 or visit Winthrop.org.
