Garden City Director Of Transportation Retires After 15 Years

Garden City Public Schools extends a fond farewell to the District’s Director of Transportation, Dave Murphy. He started working for the district in May of 2006, and over the past 15 years, he has left an imprint on the Garden City community.

In his role, Murphy supervised the entire transportation department, made up of drivers, mechanics and attendants. He was also a driver himself on many occasions, noting connecting with children over the years and watching them grow was his favorite part of the job.

His role was met with some challenges including driver shortages and the pandemic, but Murphy led the department to success, ultimately meeting the goal of getting children safely to and from school.

“The people around here are very supportive and so is the district,” Murphy said. “I’m going to miss it, I really am. I put what I feel is everything I had – my experience, my knowledge, my certifications—I’ve used every bit of it in this position. The community itself is an extremely nice community. The people appreciate the service that we provide to them.”

The district wishes Murphy well and thanks him for his many years of service.

“We would like to thank Dave Murphy for what he has been able to build in the transportation department over the past 15 and a half years. He has created a family within the department and nice experiences for our children. We wish him the best,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kusum Sinha said.

Linda Greene, the Assistant Director of Transportation, will be assuming Murphy’s responsibilities.
