About Gardencity
Gardencity maps England’s registered historic parks and gardens — landscape parks, cemeteries, town squares and botanic gardens — by grade and county.
Historic England keeps the Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest. Each site is graded I, II* or II. Gardencity is an independent guide built from the open-data records of those sites: grade, year of registration, county, size, designers, owners and the listed buildings that stand in them.
The records come from Wikidata (public domain, CC0), which carries the National Heritage List for England entry number for almost every site. County and district outlines come from Natural Earth. Distances and “nearby gardens” are calculated from coordinates.
Gardencity is not affiliated with Historic England, the National Trust or English Heritage. Many sites are private: check opening arrangements with the owner before visiting.
